Skinny wrote: | This is what I've been trying to say for fucking years, to anybody who'll listen. Moondance is awesome, but Veedon Fleece is clearly the rightful heir to Astral Weeks' throne and the title of Van's best album. |
meccalecca wrote: | I still prefer Astral Weeks, but the to albums have an extremely similar feel. And that smooth double bass surely doesn't hurt. |
Skinny wrote: | They're both two of the best albums ever made, but I have to be in the right mood for Astral Weeks, whereas I can put on Veedon Fleece at any time and be instantly transported. |

Veedon Fleece by a pretty wide margin. I love Taylor, but he has done much better. And damn... when Van's at his best, it's like crack.

Silent Tongues is a pretty weak output from Cecil, and I've never heard Veedon Fleece, so I'll be abstaining.

This. Veedon Fleece has really opened up to me over the past couple of weeks. Gorgeous and deep. The kind of album I can lost in for weeks. Send a lookout party.

All jazz falls in the second round.
And for all those saying Silent Tongues isn't Taylor's best work, I agree, but it's still pretty damn neat; it might not match up to Unit Structures, Conquistador, Nefertiti, his work with Jazz Composer's Orchestra, etc., but it's still more forward thinking and transcendent than almost every album by any other jazz pianist ever. That being said, Veedon Fleece is a very worthy contender to lose to.

I'm voting Veedon Fleece again, and will almost certainly continue doing so until it gets knocked out. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
