Guess it's about time for me to begin, I'll start with some info about my life. I'm currently at school in New York, and next week is finals week, though for me it's really interspersed throughout these 2 weeks. So I'll be studying a lot this week, which means I'll be listening to music. So let's get this thing started.

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
My roommate's out tonight, and knowing him he'll probably end up crashing somewhere else. So I took this opportunity to play some records tonight. The majority of my collection is back in California, but I brought some over with me, along with the records I've purchased in New York. So I have about 50 or so. It's getting late, so I decided to put something quieter on, as I have to get up early tomorrow to study.
Like many, my favorite Nick Drake record is Pink Moon, though I've always had a soft spot for Bryter Layter. It maintains the beautiful intimacy that Pink Moon provides, but does it using a much fuller sound, which can be a tricky thing to accomplish. It's one of the few instances where a mixed-down, reverb laden rhythm section increases the sound of the record; usually I prefer greater clarity, but this record somehow pulls it off. Perhaps it's because there's usually a beautiful lead, like strings or horns, to pull my attention away. Ah, it's too late for deliberation. After this I'll probably go to bed, but look forward to more of this log as the week progresses.
Finally made it out of bed. My roommate just got back from pulling an all nighter, and has to go to class in a couple hours, so I put on the soothing tones of

Half Way Home by Angel Olsen
I'm seeing her show tonight, and in preparation have been listening to her back catalogue the past few days. She has some a pleasant voice. My roommate remarks that she sounds like the lovechild of Joni Mitchell and Sharon Van Etten.
After that album finished, I sat down to start studying for my final tomorrow (Mass Media Relations). So I throw on
I always enjoy studying to Stars of the Lid, because I can keep the music as background noise, while taking in it's full atmosphere. Yet I can also sit down and listen to it exclusively, and listen for all it's nuances and intricacies. If you've seen my chart, it's no mystery that this is one of my favorite albums.
Now it's

Disc 1 of The Tired Sounds is ending (I usually only listen to 1 disc at a time) so I decide to take a break and get some coffee. I want to listen to something short that I can fit into my study break, so I decide to listen to.
I first saw this band opening for The Dismemberment Plan, and was instantly hooked. They have such energy and intensity live, that they instantly grabbed the entire crowds attention and never let it go. I saw them again at Death By Audio's final week, where they were billed as a support act, with 2 bands playing after them. The second they ended their set, about half the crowd left, which was amusing. Anyway, this is my first listen of their record. It's less intense from their live sound, which tends to sound more Hardcore, and less Post-Hardcore than this record. It's still loud and energetic though, just what I wanted. I would recommend it (Especially to Repo, this is right up your alley).

I spent the majority of today working on my final paper for my American Studies Within New York City class. I just finished my rough draft, and now my brain is completely fried. I need something to take my mind off of it.
The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
The 45th anniversary edition was just released last month, so I've been listening to the different mixes of this album recently. Unlike their previous 2 albums, they nailed the stereo mix mix, finally utilizing it's capabilities. I prefer Loud Reed's closet mix to the Valentin Mix, as it feels more intimate, which is really what this album's all about. It also lets some of the higher end dynamics of the guitar breath a bit more, which works wonders. If you're a fan of this album, I highly suggest listing to the new edition.

Just got back from seeing the marvelous Angel Olsen. She was fantastic, performing nearly all of her new album and a lot of material from her previous album and EP's. She closed the show with unfucktheworld and it was beautiful. I highly recommend catching her when she comes to your neck of the woods.
Now I feel like listening to
Happy Sad by Tim Buckley
My favorite Tim Buckley album. The jazzy arrangements perfectly compliment his lovely voice. Great stuff.
2:00 PM
Lazy day, got out of bed at noon. My roommate brought guests over, so now I'm studying in the building's sky lounge. I have my first final tonight, so this is prettymuch just me for the day.
My current studying music is

And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside O...o La Tengo
I usually can't study with vocal music, but I've heard this album so many times that I don't really concentrate on the lyrics anymore. I just absorb the beautiful atmosphere. It's probably my 4th favorite Yo La Tengo album, which just goes to show how much fantastic material they have. (For the record, it's behind I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One, Painful, and Electro-Pura).

Just got out of my final, now I can breath for a week(other than a couple papers I have to write)
Let's celebrate with
