In the early 70s some artist recorded albums that were much more lush and orchestrated than their previous work.
Some had more brass or strings, it was a sort of New Baroque trend. Most artist kept the sound for 1 album only.
I'm looking for more albums like this, i'm really digging it! Here are some examples.
The 70s saw the origin of the Dixie Dregs, which Steve Morse categorized as "electic chamber jazz." Very baroque-ish in structure if not instrumentation.

Counterpoint was a hallmark of Baroque music and no popular group did counterpoint better than Kansas. "Miracles out of Nowhere" from Leftoverture has two complete sections of full four-part counterpoint which are absolutely brilliant.
Of course, their employment of the violin really helped add to the baroque atmosphere. This live version includes animation for the counterpoint parts which enhances the appreciation for the simultaneous interplay of four separate melodies.
