A lot of my favorite artists drop a lot of releases a year, but some are overdue for formal debut albums and have mentioned doing something of the kind on social media, like Hannah Diamond and Mhysa. Kanye West and Tink have also announced "upcoming" albums that it makes sense for them to drop in 2017, though the former's work habits and recent health troubles and the radio silence on the latter's new album, #ThinkTink, since it was announced last year (!!) don't leave me super optimistic. I'll also be checking out, as I always do, whatever comes out of Halcyon Veil, Janus, and NON.
Japandroids and Cloud Nothings have albums coming out on the same day in January. It's going to be a pretty awesome day. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.
Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, Run the Jewels, Foxygen, Arcade Fire, The Shins. I also haven't heard anything new from Queens of the Stone Age, Vampire Weekend, Daft Punk, or My Bloody Valentine lately, so it'd be cool if they put out some new stuff soon.
It would seem unlikely that Trent Reznor is going to deliver the 'new NIN in 2016' that he tweeted a year ago, presumably due to the couple of soundtracks he's worked on this year, so new Nine Inch Nails for 2017 would appear to be a shoe in. Beck's follow up to Morning Phase didn't materialise as expected in October, so there's that too.....Tool, Soundgarden, Extreme and Gary Numan also get honourable mentions.
