Not sure if this is Possible but i was just thinking it would be cool if genre tags were attached to each album. Then we could perhaps sort the over all chart to see the "best ever jazz albums" or "best ever post-punk albums" etc. It would also be cool to see where everyone's tastes lie in the individual charts genre wise. _________________ "Here are the young men, the weight on their shoulders."
I think this was previously discussed because the inclusion of genre-restricted greatest lists would be fantastic. For someone who has found a niche in post-punk/alt rock areas of music, I always want to find more in that genre.

For instance, use wikipedias tags. Wiki pages for the most part are fairly accurate when it comes to assigning genres.
Another idea may be to somehow let members assign the genres an album belongs. Just like we are able to rate each album each member could possibly assign a genre... The album will eventually be assigned a genre based on how many votes it gets.
I'm not a computer guy so I have no idea if any of this is feasible.
Beatles white album I would label "pop"... It's more experimental but still a pop album none the less

I think the safest thing is to label the whole album. We can't go through each song and give them all separate tags; we could, but it might be painstaking.
I know personally I label albums with an overall genre and unfortunately some albums sit alongside others. So, depending on the format, Bieber might sit next to Beatles. However, the pop of the 60s is far removed from the pop of 2011.

I think it is very likely that BEA will end up with a tagging system where you can tag something anything you like, rather than just limiting it to a list of genres. I think the tagging system would also include the ability to tag tracks, charts and artists (as well as albums). Not sure at the moment of the details, but I think that's the general direction.

This is exactly what I was coming on the forums to post about.
I was thinking it would be really cool if you could look at individual charts and, just like it shows how many albums are in each decade, it shows the spread of genres in an individual chart.
Also, being able to search 'top albums' by genre.
The easiest way to implement it would be 'tagging' genres and then voting up or down suggestions based on relevance. The top three or so would then be shown and used for sorting when searching for 'top albums' in a specific genre. The top genre would be the one listed on a user's chart genre-spread.
