A close friend and I have a long going debate over this. Try to keep in mind that it may not be which band/guitarist you like more, but rather who you think is more talented. We leave it up to you best ever, who is the better guitar player?

Clapton, not even close. While Angus Young is a decent player with some great solos and a couple nice riffs, he was not nearly as important to the Rock guitar as Clapton is.

Even though this may be the most unpopular opinion in music, I believe Angus Young is the better guitarist. Eric Clapton had only a certain number of iconic riffs, Sunshine of your love, Cocaine, White Room, Crossroads, Layla.. oh wait, that was Duane Allman... Any song off of the first six AC/DC albums (NOT including for those about to rock) has memorable intros, main riffs, and solos. Also, AC/DC has been a critically acclaimed live act from the beginning to the early 90's... In early Cream, Eric Clapton, would have legendary stories of being so intoxicated he wouldn't be able to stand up on stage to perform, and I cannot imagine that his guitar playing would be much better. Meanwhile Angus Young is commanding the stage with an epic stage presence. Also, we can't ignore the fact that Eric Clapton was surrounded with great musicians for most of his, "Phenomenal..." career. Give Angus Young Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce and oh how history would be different. I'm not hating on Eric Clapton, his music was revolutionary for its time, but I feel that Angus Young's influence has reached far beyond that of Eric Clapton.

Gageham36, while I appreciate your opinion, I seems to me that Eric Clapton without a doubt is the better of the two. Do not forget that Eric Clapton was known as the greatest before, during, and after Cream. It is also worth noting that being the best musician in a band of that caliber says measures about his ability. While it is true that Angus Young did not have as strong of a supporting cast, that also means that he had a lot more freedom on guitar. Eric Clapton played with the best of the best and was still able to showcase his talent in circumstances that could very well had limited his musical freedom.

Well said. I'll take those '70s Ac/DC albums over pretty much anything Clapton's done. Including Cream. and I really like Cream.

Have to admit that I have always enjoyed both. Though I think Eric Clapton is a bit overrated by his fans, he appears on so many of my favorite songs that I have to go with him to go with him. Even though I wouldn't call myself a fan of his and never followed his career very closely, it's amazing how many of the greatest rock songs ever that he is on. Sunshine of Your Love, White Room, Let It Rain, After Midnight,, Cocaine, Only You Know and I Know, Tales of Brave Ulysses, Bell Bottom Blues and even less popular stuff that have always been personal favorites like Promises and a couple other of his solo songs and Yardbirds stuff. I love all those records. I
. I never get tired of hearing any of these songs no matter how many times I've heard them. Sometimes I even like his singing, though usually I don't. I'd have to say he's the better guitar player though. Although I'm sure people with better knowledge of guitar playing than me might pick Angus Young.

In a band aspect, I prefer AC/DC to Cream... However, based on career achievements and longevity, I think Clapton reigns superior. He was the best musician of the Yardbirds, you know that old band with Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page? He was apart of the supergroup Cream where each musician of the band was arguably top tier at their respective instrument. He then went on to have a popular solo career and with Derek & The Dominos. Not sure what Angus Young accomplished outside of AC/DC, I'm sure he's been active. Technically speaking, Eric Clapton is one of the best guitar players ever, he could blow away almost anybody. Socially and culturally, Angus Young probably appealed to more people, and ultimately I would've rather seen AC/DC live. _________________ Jeff Lynne 5th Beatle

Neither?
Sunshine of your love and White Room were written by Jack Bruce, and sure the guitar work was likely written by Clapton, the riff to sunshine of your love was not. The solo to White Room is likely all you can fully credit to Clapton.
To be honest I'm not crazy about either guitarist. While Angus Young does have some decent blues riff rock, I can't really enjoy a whole album of it.
Out of all works by all the artists, this album is likely the one I have the highest regard for and not for the guitar work.

Don't know. Probably on an objective level Clapton's better, but I just find him incredibly bland. Blues is all about attitude and he doesn't have it, imo (of course). I'm not an AC/DC fan either, but Angus's playing has character, which is hugely important for me in terms of who I prefer.

He was strictly a blues guitarist, I probably wouldn't even listen to him because Blues bores the fuck out of me. What he does was largely something else. It's many different things. The only time he sucks is when he does one of those long extended blues jams that go on and on for 64 hours.. I hate that kind of crap, so you know he must be doing something other than that. Kind of like I feel about the Allman Brothers. I hate those long endless jams that take up a whole side of an album, but I love the Allman Brothers when they do something short and sweet with more of a country flavor. They're just better at it. Most really talented artists do more than one thing.
