This album did not age very well. I re-listened to it some time in the past year and it went from Top 40 on my list to off my list completely. Still I agree with raad that it's the best of their 63-64 albums. Tracks 3 and 5 are wonderful.

Haven't listened to this in a long time. I tend to listen to the early Beatles stuff on compilations. Its been a long time since I listened to one of the pre-Rubber Soul albums.

By far the most Lennon album. McCartney's songwriting contributions were about 2 1/2 songs ("Can't Buy Me Love", "Things We Said Today", and about half of "And I Love Her"). Everything else here was Lennon.
I've known every word to every song for as long as I can remember. Even the non hits. So...yeah.

For me, it's meet the beatles/with the beatles for the best early era Beatles album.
But alas, all of their albums before Rubber Soul are a bit overrated. Better than much of their peers (Rolling Stones), but not something to write home about either.

The following albums would not have this exuberant joie de vivre again. Tell Me Why, for instance, with the childish high notes at the end: beautiful sixties innocence. Lovely album.

Still uneven, but pretty charming and lovely. Some great melodies here and there, and of course a couple of stone cold classics. And I Love Her was by far their most mature song when it came out, and maybe the first real Beatles classic.
