Crazy Classic Life is my favorite song of the album Dirty Computer and Noid is my favorite song of the album Safe in the Hands of Love. Between the two albums, I prefer Dirty Computer. But between the two songs I prefer Noid. So, Yves Tumor for his great song.

Crazy Classic Life was kinda' catchy, but I can tell that it's the disposable kind of catchy that will just get tiresome with repeated listening. In the end, the song has nothing to say and musically it goes nowhere. Nod was more interesting, and much more likely to be interesting a year, or even a week from now.

I mean, if you ignore all of the lyrics about loving yourself, taking pride in your uniqueness, and how driven black women are "not America's nightmare, [they are] the American dream" I guess you're right.

I remember not liking the Yves Tumor album much but Noid is an enjoyable track. Still gotta go with Monae though.

And yet every verse culminates with I just want a crazy life giving the overall impression that theres no more meaningful bottom line than Sheryl Crow. I guess the rap at the kind is an attempt to say an old message a new way, but it's still an old message and comes across as such.

Agree or disagree with it, the lyrics are very much making a point, even in the sections you single out as vapid. Her point is that in American society different people are allowed different amounts of freedom to be themselves, make mistakes, live a "crazy, classic life."* She wants that breathing room that others get for her and her community.

*One example of this would be that white people and black people use marijuana at roughly the same rates, but black people are orders of magnitude more likely to have spent time in jail for simple possession.

This is so hard to choose because I love both of these songs so much. Listening to both on repeat and feeling torn.

Little annoyed at this match considering some of the other slightly dud-ish pairs. Both are great.

Noid really hit me when I heard it as Yves' promo single... those final 45 seconds in particular are stunning. It doesn't fall under any genre. He's mushed industrial production underneath R&B compositions and a hip-hop arrangement with funk riffs. I think. That's the best description I've got. Maybe add some neo-punk art rock into that sentence somewhere.

I haven't a clue how, but somehow it works. The confidence Yves plows everyone over with helps too. It's kinda like what I said about Kali Uchis earlier.

Crazy Classic Life is a great cut, but I'd take 3 or 4 tracks on Dirty Computer over it. Still lost on how Django Jane and Screwed got snubbed on year-end lists.

You could always go with one of your witty and intelligent critiques like "Car Seat Headrest sucks."! I mean, with irrefutable brilliance like that, how could I not be convinced?
