I shouldn't have likes The Ex as much as I did. Maybe it's because they transcend mere punk... or maybe because it's extra cool when you can get your mom to play drums.

That said, "I can foresee..." voting for Lee.

When ripping the CD (only way it's available) for Cheol-kkot-sae , it ripped as one track. The composition is just the first 38:17. It sees South Korean, but NYC based, cellist Okkyung Lee exploring her cultural roots, hence the Pansori singing and traditional Korean drumming. Will drop by this weekend with a beefier discussion for both this and Dirt. Lee is one of the hottest young talents this decade, and really came into her own in 2018 with this and another couple releases; Threadgill is one of the acknowledged pillars of modern composition (won a rare Pulitzer for jazz), getting there with Zooid and Double Up bit really reaching new heights (how?!) with this ensemble.

The experimental delirium of Mrs. Lee does not miss interest but does not manage to convince me in front of a good piece of The Ex. Mom's drum holds the road, my vote goes to Soon All Cities.

Yeah again I have jested a bit why a 2018 song tournament seems to be so focused on 20th century styles, so of course I choose a band that's been around since 1979 , but yeah The Ex are obviously a band that's dabbled in so many different global styles and frequently collaborate with other artists across the musical spectrum, but this is just a terrific straight up post-punk track and in terms of both lyrics and composition some of the best I've heard in a long time, a back-to-basics that's still pushes and pull it's sound to new directions and, well, doesn't rant about basic vape kids so that's a plus.

The Excellent Soon All Cities from their excellent 27 Passports album that I only heard recently and was blown away. Where have this band been all my life?

The track by the Ex was excellent and another full album to listen to.
Btw iโ€™m no expert in drumming but I think I would drum about the same way If I started to. But sheโ€™s very efficiรซnt.
The other track was not really interesting in my view.
