Another album influenced by The Band, but perhaps in a way unique to Fairport. I know this album has some stiff competition ahead of it for 1969, but it’s better than albums like Tommy or Space Oddity.

Tam Lin is a top 10 all-time track for me...it’s just too good.

Probably in my top 100 these days, I fell in love with it some time back and listened countless times since, my favourite release of theirs.

Amazing to think that this, Unhalfbricking and What We Did On Our Holidays all came out within months of each other. Not a bad 3-album run that.

Highlight for me is definitely "Crazy Man Michael", which ironically sounds like the most trad-folk cut of the entire record in spite of the fact that it's one of only two original compositions on the LP.

A solid gold gem of an album from a golden age for British folk music. A little too electric to make it into the upper echelons of Jimmy's folk box, but otherwise a beautiful, beautiful record.

Doesn't contain Autopsy or Who Knows Where the Time Goes, which means it's not my favourite of theirs. Think I'll have to stick Matty Groves on now though.
