It struck me that there are some songs which either were not taken seriously in their time or have become passé/targets of ridicule over the years, yet they had pretty awesome guitar solos. Or maybe the song was always good, but the solo still better. A great guitar solo should support the song, but in some cases it is simply just so much better than the song that it becomes memorable in its own right.
Which of these is your favorite solo? Which outshines its song the most? And does the best solo belong to the best song?

2. Jerry Raferty – Baker Street (solo fits the song tbh)

I tried to avoid using examples where the guitarists are generally known as guitar heroes, so I ignored folks like Allman and Kath. But those are great examples of a solo being better than the song. I'm sure there are lots of guest appearances by well known guitarists on others' albums as well as their own which fit the bill here.
Off the top of my head, this one springs to mind. It's a fine song, but not necessarily his best while the guitar work is out of this world, among his best ever.
Thanks for catching the McCartney performance on the studio album as well. Interestingly, that is one of the first solos I learned when picking up guitar myself.
This track just seems like a little offbeat dance number, but then it has a nifty guitar solo for pretty much the whole entire second half of the track.
Talking of Clapton I always liked the solo on Bad Love.
But that is a pretty decent song.
I thought all of the suggested songs were excellent and I knew most of them, so though they had good guitar solos the songs themselves are good.
