Going with my pick here. Really love the ode to his dad after growing up in West Virginia coal country. Around when this album came out I also had watched some Peter Santanello videos about some rural communities in deep Appalachia, and found them really fascinating. I think some of those videos have given me an even deeper appreciation for a lot of Charles Wesley Godwin's music. Charles Wesley Godwin talks a lot about his culture, family ties, and upbringing in his music and this track just stuck with me the most from that record. I think he's in the upper echelon of songwriters in country music right now.

I don't mind religious music, however I just prefer my track of course.

LTSings, have you heard of the band The War & Treaty? Great Country Soul band but they have gospel elements.

Here's a track you may like:

Thanks for the music suggestion. No, I had not heard of this group. If you are interested in songs about West Virginia coal country, you might like this country gospel song "Going Underground". It's partly about a man that worked in the West Virginia coal mines and it's also partly a religious song. It's by Shawn Camp. There are 2 country singers named "Shawn Camp" There's one that's from Arkansas, but the Shawn Camp that sings this song is from West Virginia.

And here's another song you might find interesting if you haven't heard it. This one is not a religious song. It's just a song about coal. It's by Kathy Mattea and it's called "Hello My Name Is Coal".

Thank you to the 2 other people who voted for the song I picked.

A surprisingly well-placed matchup, slightly skewered Appalachian country against a more polished Gospel barn-burner. The Habedank track is solid but Godwin definitely has improved more and more with repeat listens due to his strength as a lyrcisit, even with the occasionally awkward tics in the performance.

Minor Flaws but a Major win for Charles

Minor Imperfections wins, 6-3

I didn't expect my pick to win, but it did better than I expected, so I am glad. Honestly, I didn't think either of my picks would get any votes besides mine. This wasn't bad for my first time playing this game.
