Johnny Cash was one of the greatest song writers of all time, I Walk The Line, Don't Take Your Gun To Town, Folsom Prison Blues, Man In Black, Get Rhythm, the list just goes on and on.

Johnny was also one of the greatest performers of all time, and amongst his huge number of releases during his illustrious career he reinterpreted (not a fan of the phrase Cover Version) a large number of songs, often, better than the original.

So, as a tribute to the great man I am starting a post to share my thoughts on these songs.

It would be great if you feel the urge to comment yourself either on the posts that I put up but more importantly, your pick as great reinterpretations by Johnny

I'm going to kick off in a few minutes

Rusty Cage is The epitome of Johnny Cash reinterpreting other artists songs. I know that people tend to reference the cover of NIN's Hurt as the best cover version of his career. It's a great cover but for me, this is the greatest cover version that he did.

I love the original Soundgarden song, one of their greatest. This country rock arrangement takes the song to a new level and the switch at around 1min 30 sec to a belter of a guitar segment, by Johnny with the Heartbreakers, at that point is a goosebump moment.

Which version is the best? I don't care. They are both awesome in their own right. I'm just happy that both version exist

Both versions are fabulous. I'm not putting Johnny's version ahead of The Modes, but I'd say that it's on a par.

Both classics and just posting this because I think that they need to be shared

Thanks for posting the depeche mode track romanelli and the advice. I really need to write this stuff down. Youโ€™re not the first person to give me advice on getting this right. Iโ€™m not the most patient of people so get a little frustrated. Going to persevere though.

What do you think of the two versions? I love them both
