Word.

Was chatting to a friend t'other day (as you do) and somehow this topic came up in conversation. If anyone cares to share, don't pretend that the first single you bought was TVOD/Warm Leatherette by The Normal - be proud to see how far you've come... for example...

FIRST SINGLE - Uptown Girl - BILLY JOEL (1983)

I can pinpoint the exact moment I fell in love with this. It was on the way to Tenby in my parents' Ford Granada with a caravan bolted on the back when it came on the radio.

FIRST ALBUM - Go West - GO WEST (1985)

I loved the video for "We Close Our Eyes" - a classic case of the music video selling the record to me. Artist's dolls and men in vests could not stop me listening to this every day for about 2 years.

FIRST GIG - The La's, Brighton (1994)

Shambolic but beautiful, the La's had briefly reformed (minus Cast-off John Power) and played a series of gigs to celebrate. I loved their self-titled LP, so went along with a spotty boy called Jerome and a girl called Susan I had a major crush on. Lee Mavers was swearing at the band throughout.

Single:
Gifted - "Music Sounds Better With You" by Stardust (and to this day I love it so much) circa 1998
Bought - erm...not entirely sure but it was probably "When You Were Young" by The Killers circa 2006

Album:
Gifted - Vulture Street by Powerfinger (eww) circa 2003
Bought - In My Life by George Martin (pretty cool compilation of Beatles covers and George Martin's score for Yellow Submarine) circa 2001

Gig: Coldplay at the Burswood Dome (it was amazing regardless of the shitty venue) circa 2006.

1st Album (bought for me): Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (and the rest is history)

1st Album (bought on my own): The Eminem Show, I think...

1st Single: I've never really bought a single...

1st Concert: Anti-Flag, Rise Against and Billy Talent. I was 12 or 13. I remember gawking at how expensive everything at the venue was.

Hm... Don't think anything was bought "for me", I always listened to what we had at home. Also can't remember the first gig, but I think it might've been the Kelly Family concert in Slovenia 😨 (with my parents)

As for the album i bought. I think it was the two albums by two slovenian rappers. One was by a rapper that I already knew about as we had his (infamous) debut at home, the second rapper I never listened to before, but I bought the whole package because it was so cheap. Anyway the first album was very good, but I only listened to the second one about six months later, and guess what... Well, look at how many albums by N'toko are on my chart. The one that I bought is my favourite and is in my top 50 (and my 2nd favourite hip hop album)

Best. First purchase. Ever.

I stole all my fathers Donovan albums.

But the first album I bought myself was "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan, because he didn't allow me to keep them.
