"It really warms my heart to see how quickly this album has risen on the 2016 list. This is my first "new" Nick Cave album as I'm still not two years into him. I bought as soon as it came out last Friday, have listened to it at least a dozen times and I still have barely any words. When Nick Cave lost his son I knew the next album would be the most heartbreaking yet. While it most certainly is that, it is also the most devastatingly beautiful album of the year. And while I think its somber tone and personal lyrics may not turn on a non-fan, people like me who think this is the greatest band of all time know that Saint Nick has churned out another masterpiece. Album of the year."

"Wow. In a year with so many great emotionally driven albums (A Moon Shaped Pool, Blackstar, Lemonade), Nick Cave somehow managed to top them all (though I'll have to keep listening to see if that opinion stands). Just an absolutely gut-wrenching album from beginning to end. The last three tracks are especially gorgeous, with Cave delivering his best poetry to date."

What’s the most acclaimed depressing albums of the decade? I answer: Carrie & Lowell, this, and A Crow Looked At Me. They all deal with loss of someone. And we know, to each aforementioned record, who that someone is. But here’s my thought: we all are gonna lose our parent(s) at some point. Just like the majority of us (when we get old) are going to lose our significant other, unless we die first. But it’s the fewest, the most pure, as well as the in this case most unlucky, who loses their 15-year-old child. That might potentially be the biggest possible tragedy that could happen in my life! And out of all artists, it was Nick Cave: a man who has death as a very common topic in his music, as far as I know. But here, it’s way more real. To be truly madly deeply honest, I do not know what to state with this comment to Skeleton Tree. I have cried to this album. But finding the words to this heart crunching night of an album, feels thin and utterly wrong. This is one of the saddest things I’ve heard all year. You might have seen that sentence coming. Either cause it’s me drowning in terrible clichéd statements, or cause you agree. For quiet sometime, I didn’t want to put it on my chart. I said that it was because I considered it to be an EP at the time that every pre-9 track album under exact 40 minutes I certified as EP’s, but it was also because what should I say about it. When I press play, I go (rightfully) speechless.

My introduction to Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, and now having listened to their entire studio discography (save Push the Sky Away and Wild God), and despite loving every album they've made, this is still my favorite. A stunning, shattering work of genius.
