I'll start off with the The Stranger by Billy Joel. It has a wide appeal in my opinion and isn't avant garde so it really shouldn't have polarizing views. Also, it has great critical reception being #67 on Rolling Stone's list _________________ One evening 1945 -
Jar of Flies- Alice In Chains...ranked 586. I think it's an absolute masterpiece. I guess maybe because it's technically only an ep more people don't list it? I've also heard people say they have lame lyrics. I guess they aren't the greatest but I still listen and can't believe a hard rock borderline metal band released an album like this and pulled it off so brilliantly.
Honkey Chateau- Elton John...ranked 1,539. Only 14 charts?? By far my favorite Elton John album, love every song.
Under The Table And Dreaming- Dave Matthews Band...ranked 1,140. I know a lot of people can't stand Dave Matthews, but this album is amazing. I think Ants Marching is one of the best songs of the past 20 years for sure. And every member of this band has ridiculous talent.
I personally don't understand how Superunknown by Soundgarden is only at #149 on our charts. The only publication I've ever found that gave it anything less than a perfect score was Rolling Stone (which gave it 4 stars), and frankly, from a technical perspective, it's substantially more accomplished than any Nirvana album (both in terms of musicianship and production; songwriting is subjective, certainly, but even then I think Soundgarden's compositions are smoother and more intricate). Additionally, it was an exceptionally original album at the time of its release. Until Superunknown, no band had been able to create a sound that was as simultaneously heavy and unified as the one demonstrated on this album. I've personally never heard any other album on which the vocals mesh so seamlessly with the instruments. So #149's a little low for this one, in my opinion.
Chris Cornell hasn't exactly done himself any favors in the past decade. (Which probably shouldn't affect Superunknown's standing, but ultimately probably does.)
The Cure - Disintegration - thought this would be in the top 50 at least.
Peter Gabriel - So - probably most well known of his and a truly great album

Well said, I was thinking of mentioning this one too. #14 on my chart. One of the greatest vocal performances of all time, and great songwriting and musicianship all around. Some of my all time favorite songs are on here (Like Suicide and The Day I Tried To Live especially).
