  • Quote
I once lived with a guy who listened to nothing but generic pop R&B. One day I spotted a copy of Blur's Parklife in his collection and wondered why he'd never explored his Britpop roots any further. Reason - "my Mum bought this for me because it has two greyhounds on the cover and I like dogs".

I'm sure this topic has probably been covered previously in one form or another, but I'm in a poll-setting mood and have little else better to do.

Question is, whilst I think this site breeds (on the whole) an open mind, there's always a musical genre or sub-genre that doesn't quite click, even for the most eclectic among us. Which is yours?

Country is my bugbear. I can never get into anything overly country. Closest I can get is Paul Kelly. Maybe it's the twang in the voice, maybe it's the generic guitar noise but now I live in the country, it is more prevalent and it is grating for me to hear.

Metal that can't also be classified as (heavy) rock, such as death metal or thrash metal.

Also, the really rootsy country stuff - I tried listening to "The Guitar Song" by Jamey Johnson a couple of years ago and it was painful. 😢

But, to be fair, I haven't really given that much effort towards trying to like these genres, because they would be so unappealing for a very long time (and by the end of it, I still might not like it).

Techno. 😕

Not to get confused with electronica.

And Post-Rock is still heating up towards me.

Dammit... knew I'd forgotton something in that poll... maybe I should substitute prog-rock for 'incessant and oft-depressing noise-noodling' just to cover up my glaring omission...

None of them. I am able to listen to any music and find something that is worth while. As long as the artist put their soul into it, the heart will shine through. I listen to lots of music as a result 😄
