Meh, Wayne Coyne is a great self-promoter. I love the Lips, as my list will attest to, but he does my fucking nut in.

I really liked Embryonic, more than anything since The Soft Bulletin, but he (and, in particular, his twitter 'personality') needs to chill out and concentrate on writing songs

I'd say it's a pretty good rule of thumb that artists are the worst appraisers of their own work.

If a band didn't think their newest album was their best, why bother putting it out?

That's just silly. Refuse to release good music just because it's not the absolute best you're capable of?

Wow, all the comments on the NME site sadden me. People apparently want music in the vein of The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi. I want music in the vein of In A Priest Driven Ambulance. Embryonic was the closest they've gotten to that in 15 years. Conclusion: people are idiots.

Because they prefer Yoshimi and Soft Bulletin? Seems a little closed-minded...

Agreed, its a bit of a crazy standard to throw down that if you cant do better than your best dont bother. Just because you cant send out a 100/100 album to beat your 96/100 album doesnt mean you should toss a 90/100 caliber album in the trash.

Yeah it is a little close-minded. But I'm right, they're wrong. Come judgement day I'll be smoking a fatty boombatty with 'Pac, Jesus and Zeus, and they'll be waiting in line with Nelly and Sting to get a pineapple up their ass.
