Naming and symbolism being agreed upon conventions there is nothing that would prevent us from deciding that from now on the symbol 2 would correspond to the quantity of 3. In this case, 2 + 2 would equal 6 (as long as the naming convention for 6 isn't also changed of course).

However, this would lead to such confusion when making diner reservations on a first date that the Union of Scientists has utterly banned this practice. Scientists do not get that many dates.

I usually get 365 dates a year but every fourth year I get lucky.
