As Hayden suggested in the other thread, here's a poll on these songs by the Beach Boys and Arcade Fire, respectively. Which is better and why?

I think this one is even more obvious than the last poll, to be honest. God Only Knows could be argued as the greatest song ever recorded, while IMO Wake Up is only the 4th best song on Funeral.

Lol, it makes me happy that this poll actually happened.

Anyhow, God Only Knows is nowhere NEAR the greatest song ever recorded, but I will have to agree that it's quite a bit better than Wake Up (though I do enjoy Wake Up).

Wake Up.

Both are in my top 10 songs ever though...Wake Up is just slightly ahead.

But, two, REALLY, REALLY good songs. Like. The best. I appreciate them both more and more every listen.

Overall, I prefer Funeral to Pet Sounds, but even I have to admit, God Only Knows beats Wake Up here.

God Only Knows

I'm a huge fan of how Pet Sounds is arranged and the trademark sound of the Beach Boys. The Arcade Fries lack that full sound that the Beach Boys have captured so perfectly.

Wake Up simply because nothing on The Beach Boys album ((thee album) that is not Smile) comes close to... this one by Arcade Fire. I think it is one of the bombast ones.

Wake Up is a powerful song but it forces itself upon you, it's like a made for Lifetime tv special, there's no subtlety, all explosive grandiosity.

God Only Knows, much like the Kinks Waterloo Sunset, is painfully beautiful without having to resort to being overblown and schmaltzy like Wake Up.
