Like most I think late 60s, early 70s was best for the Stones.
They're earlier stuff had its moments, but didn't do anything new or spectacular, much like The Beatles.
Exactly, that's why I find this so interesting because they had a great stint both before and after 1969. I mean their best album as listed on this site is Exile, which is the second half, my favorite stuff is actually before then... I am curious if there is a group out there that thinks that the stones after 1969 is their favorite.
I don't understand why you throw the singles from Sticky Fingers into the first category and then throw the album into the second category in your two timelines. If it's based on when Jones died, I know for a fact that Wild Horses was recorded after his death, and should be in the second category.
Anyways, I think Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main Street are better than sliced bread, but if I were to vote between these categories, I'd go with the earlier stuff.

From Beggers Banquet in 68 to Exile on Main St in 72 the stones were at their peak and as good as anyone. Everything either side of them years just isn't for me, the odd decent song here and there but some terrible albums.
