Super great album, approximatively on par with Boxer, for me.

I prefer Boxer and Alligator, but this album is still fantastic. I love the moody atmosphere they went with, it's much more textured and gives it a very dreamy quality. England is also one of my favorites by them.

One of my all time favourites, easily the best National album.

So much darker than their previous albums, feels much more full of 'man angst'.
All the songs are fantastic, particularly enjoy the last two - the moment the second verse in Crybaby Geeks starts and the extra guitar kicks in gives me shivers every time. Such a brilliant ending to an album.

I was slightly disappointed by High Violet when it was first released. It seemed like the National had surrendered to their comfort zone and got too comfortable, but it really grew on me since then. I may still prefer Alligator over both High Violet and Boxer. Something about that album really struck a chord with me when I first heard it.
