Just curious to see which band is more loved here. They have some similarities, but I think they have equal popularity considering In The Aeroplane is really big on this site but Modest Mouse has 2 or 3 decently ranked albums on the site.
NMH, Jeff Mangum is my favorite lyricist of all time, his words just encode motion in me like no other. It's beautiful.
Although I also do love Modest Mouse, Lonesome Crowded West is 10 on my chart.
Just wait for Happymeal for the Modest Mouse defense.
Personally prefer Modest Mouse because I like Moon And Antarctica more than In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, but both bands are great. Still, Modest Mouse has more albums and I like their best album more than NMH's best, so it's pretty easy for me.

I love Lonesome Crowded West, it's closest anythings come to the feelings In The Aeroplane gave me.
I also liked We Were Dead Before... but it gets some hate, Moon and Antarctica and This is a Long Drive... were pretty good and I didn't enjoy Good News For People... unlike most MM fans.
Both NMH album are perfect for me. 9/10 and 10/10 I still give it to NMH

Agreed, I don't see where all the hate for Avery Island comes from, other than the last track, it's perfect. Also has my 2nd favorite song of theirs on it, Naomi.
Happymeal is going to love me for voting Modest Mouse.
There really wasn't much competition in this for me. Modest Mouse are a good, solid, unique brand of indie rock whereas Neutral Milk Hotel are folk which has never clicked for me. _________________ Back after a while

I like Song Against Sex, it's my favorite NMH track but it gets overlooked a lot. I think the first five songs of On Avery Island flow better than any other compilation of songs in an album.

Agreed, Gardenhead/Leave Me Alone, Baby for Pree, and Where you'll find me now are also amazing songs.
