So I've been trying to stream albums I haven't heard before lately, but need more recommendations. So I'm asking people to check out my chart and recommend albums you think I'll like.
I'm obviously heavily into 90s alternative rock, a handful of 00s artists who could also be tossed in that category, folk rock, 1970s singer/songwriter and soft rock stuff, 80s New Wave and college rock, 60s rock. I like music that has strong composition, and usually prefer a singer I can listen to. I mostly don't like country music or rap or modern-day R&B - there's exceptions but they're extraordinarily rare. I'm also not looking for classical music recommendations.
I'm going to give Dylan's Blonde on Blonde a listen today for the hell of it, and check back in a bit to see if anyone's given me some suggestions here. Thanks in advance ๐
EDIT:
Playlist for consideration Codeine - Frigid Stars - *listened* was worth saving the playlist for future listens - wouldn't rate very high, but good enough
Mansun - Six - *listened* saved, but borderline - sound a lot like Manic Street Preachers...A LOT.
Chris Stills - 100 Year Thing - *listened* dull as hell, but listened to the whole thing...he doesn't seem to connect with his own music, almost like he didn't write it. Also his guitar work is completely uninspired.
Beauty Pill - The Cigarette Girl from the Future - *listened* eh...ok, but not really my thing. Not likely to bother listening to this EP again, but might check out one of their full albums.
The Fiery Furnaces - Bitter Tea - *partially listened* bizarre music with random shifts that frankly completely ruin what is only good in small parts...plus they've a penchant for electronic sounds that are in the range of "irritating". Doesn't make for a good review. Didn't make it far with this album. Put up with it through the title track.
Dead Meadow - Feathers- *listened partially* Opening guitar rift reminds me of Sabbath. It's not bad, but not really my thing. Gave it the listen as far as I could, got bored, didn't finish - made it through 6 songs. They need a more expert producer to remix the album so the sound levels are more balanced - guitars are too loud considering they're not very interesting, vocals sound tinny, drums are too low (also uninspired though). They also need a bit more energy.
Making Mirrors - Gotye - *listened* much better, more than a one-hit guy for certain. Songs are a bit too short at times. Interesting nod to Motown sounds with I Feel Better (60s) and In Your Light (80s). Overall a pretty good album. Saved to playlist.
Like Drawing Blood - Gotye Yuck - Yuck Some Nights - Fun Belong - Pains of Being Pure At Heart Let Me Come Over - Buffalo Tom Down Colorful Hill - Red House Painters Cokefloat - Paws Never Loved Elvis - The Wonderstuff The Eight Legged Groove Machine - The Wonderstuff S/T - This is Ivy League Tigermending - Carina Round Bark Psychosis - Hex

Fair enough. If you ever decide to give them another listen, the albums Blue and Out of the Vein have a more pop-directed sound than their self-titled.

It's not so much their sound as their singer...part of that mosquito-whine nasal singing style I dubbed the "snot-nosed punk" sound of the late 90s/early 00s. I can sort of stand them now (they're better than some of the crap that followed in the next decade) but I still won't seek them out. _________________ <(: @ :)>
You might check this out...Chris Stills' debut album from 1993. He is the son of Stephen Stills. This album is pretty amazing. _________________ I'm leaning on the threshold
