Has anyone else noticed how much the album rightly deserves the title of 'Greatest Album by The Smiths'? 'The Queen Is Dead' stands far above every other album the band recorded and the only thing which comes close are the greatest hits collections. When you have an album with such songs as 'Cemetry Gates', 'The Boy with the Thorn in His Side' and 'Bigmouth Strikes Again' it is quite clear you have hit your height.
Something astounding comes together on this album. Something which isn't quite there on all their other studio albums.

It is amazing. And I'd agree that it's probably the best of their proper studio releases, but the other three are all fantastic and not far off. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
In an effing brilliant discography with virtually no flaw, and that's including almost all singles B-sides, The Queen Is Dead is the lighthouse that never goes out. It's so clever it saves its best song for the end, while having a stainless string of pearls all along. This fucking album saved my life.
I don't know what it is,but this album and I have grown apart. It was easily my favourite Smiths record for ages and I adored it,none of their others came close. Then my love for their other three studio albums grew,as did my affections towards their comps, eps, etc. I don't know what happened and I wish it wasn't the case, but this album lost it's magic. It's still good, however that's all it is,whereas The Smiths and Meat Is Murder are great,I mean fucking amazing. It could be my inner hipster trying to rear it's head,it could be the fact the dickhead down the road has a jumper with the album cover on it,it could be the fact I just don't believe what the man himself sings,it could be that i've over played it,it could be the fact it's not as interesting as their other efforts,it could be the fact it just doesn't have the same charming effect on me it used to,it could be the fact i fucking hate There Is A Light. In fact,it's all of those reasons I just gave and a few more.I'm gonna neglect it for a while and hopefully my love will be rekindled when we meet again.
I'm kinda on and off with The Queen is Dead. Sometimes I would think it's very good and sometimes I find it annoying, depending on what mood I'm in. But when you have such a perfect song like The Boy With the Thorn in His Side, I can't really complain too much. Some of the other songs on the album are also good. Though I really want to hear the other albums in their discography because they seem to be significant. _________________

This
Jonny Mar's guitar just shimmers throughout the whole album, it just makes this album for me.

It's listening to the song alluded to here that made me make this thread. I was sitting on a bench keeping away from the rain earlier in the week and I was listening to the song. Seemed so much better on that day 😄
