Howdy howdy folks:

I dabbled a bit with blues music years ago, and I'm just finding my way back to it now. I'm looking for recommendations - straight-forward blues artists. Nothing against blues-rock, but I'm not looking for that.

I already have King of the Delta Blues Singers... So beyond that. I've also got a little Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, RL Burnside, and Billie Holiday.

Artists?

Specific albums?

Definitely gotta get yourself some Skip James and Leadbelly.

If you like RL Burnside try Junior Kimbrough. A big influence on The Balck Keys.

You might also want to check out;

T-Model Ford
Elmore James
Junior Wells
Freddy King
T-Bone Walker
Skip James for starters

I could suggest a few more obscure choices as well if your interested

Junior Wells' album Hoodoo Man Blues (Someone beat me to it)

Willie Dixon is also a good thing to check out.

Lightnin' Hopkins, Taj Mahal, Son House (I'll think of more later, maybe)

EDIT: Apologies, I should have been a little more specific with Chris Rea by saying Blue Guitars (album) rather than his whole discography (which I haven't listened to much from it). That specific album is pretty good. Apparently he has done more than blues (as I said, not exactly familiar with him outside of a few albums).

EDIT2: Just a warning, I forgot that John Mayall does Blues rock rather than straight up blues (at least, the albums I've heard) so apologies for forgetting about that! Not my day for recommending on the spot! Though, if anyone is looking for Blues rock, then be sure to also check out Johnny Winter.

Seasick Steve - I Started Out With Nothing And I've Still Got Most Of It Left

He usually does Blues Rock but this album is almost a straight up Blues. Almost...okay, it's kind of Blues Rock but it's still awesome!

The Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir - Fighting And Onions

Don't let the name put you off. These guys are a really great Blues band.

Muddy Waters - Muddy Waters At Newport
B.B. King - Live At The Regal

I figured it would have already been suggested but give Tommy Johnson - Complete Recorded Works a listen.
