Maybe this has been a thread before but: What artist/genre/album has become your ongoing obsession because of this website?
Surprising to myself, Jim Thirlwell has become my obsession. I want to listen to what this man creates. Everything. From a guest bit on a rare 1980s album where he plays drums to a full-blown solo effort filled with jazz, industrial and post-punk aesthetics; I am intrigued by this man. I don't always enjoy his music but something always draws me in. Is it edgy for my English/Drama high school teacher image? Is the name Foetus just too weird? Am I harbouring feelings to be an industrial ambient music pioneer? Who knows.
Lethal got me into reggae and in particular Gregory Isaacs.
Otherwise, having discovered most of the music I listen to thanks to BEA, I could say that I had most of my obsessions because of the site. From Belle & Sebastian to Built To Spill to punk to Richard Hell, everything happened thanks to BEA. Lol I sound like I had no life before... I've had a power ballad obsession two years ago (bleeeh... I still love November Rain, though), and Queen, Doors and Beatles obsessions without knowing BEA yet, but otherwise I discovered music thanks to this place.
Found out about Sufjan Stevens from this site almost a year ago, now he's one of my favourite artists, if not my all-time favourite. He's almost completely unknown in the UK.
I don't know if there are any artists who I could say I'm obsessed with thanks to BEA (my obsessions are still the same ones I had when I joined - hip-hop, reggae, UK bass music, The Flaming Lips, Bob Dylan), but here's a list of albums from my chart that are there because of BEA:
Oval - 94 Diskont
Recommended by purple.
Bjรถrk - Homogenic
I knew who Bjรถrk was, but never gave her music a real chance until I saw how enthusiastic various users were about her, and this album in particular. I'd heard the odd song from it previously, but hadn't heard the whole thing in its entirety. Was blown away, obviously, hence its inclusion on my chart.
The The - Soul Mining
Think I listened to this because of a Magenta recommendation. She's free to correct me if it wasn't her, but I definitely listened to it because of somebody on BEA.
Tortoise - TNT
Probably another purple rec to be honest. Can't remember.
Can - Ege Bamyasi
Like Bjรถrk, just a general enthusiasm from a lot of users convinced me to try Can.
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works vol. II
I loved the first volume, but didn't even know of this album's existence until I came to BEA.
Ganger - Hammock Style
purple again.
Sun City Girls - Torch of the Mystics
Borve, I think. I always forget. I saw the cover in the 'What album are you listening to...' thread, and asked what it was. Loved it from the first listen.
Slint - Spiderland
Found it because of how many charts it appears in and how often it gets mentioned around here. Actually didn't like this at all after the first few listens, but people whose tastes I trust clearly loved it so I persevered. So glad I did.
There are a ton of great recommendations from a bunch of users across all of my charts, but those are the ones from my overall. So yeah, cheers BEA.
Nobody told me. I remember him getting rave reviews across pretty much all UK publications when Illinois came out. In fact, I heard about him even earlier, when Seven Swans came out. I dunno, maybe I just chill with too many music geeks.
Cymro2011The Beatles were objectively averageProfile In a deep, dark bubblegum graveyard

That was one of the first albums I discovered from BEA.
