So what are the biggest cult bands out there? Ones which the fans would rabidly defend to their dying breath more so than other bands/artists?

After looking over the internet (google) a few times I noticed these ones recurring:
- The Replacements
- Jellyfish
- The Fall
- Brian Jonestown Massacre
- The Meat Puppets
- Husker Du (yes i know!)

You also get bonus points for ones with 0-1 albums on the site ๐Ÿ˜„

Without question, The Grateful Dead has the freakiest and most obsessive fans on the planet. Talk about rabid cult bands.

My own contribution to this thread would be Sparks.

They had a hit with "This Town Isn't Big Enough..." and then disappeared a few years later following a few top 40 singles. They are definitely worth a a listen. After 28 albums (i think) their small fan base is as dedicated as ever. ๐Ÿ˜„ I hear they have great live shows too.

Go for a live album if you're gonna hear them out. If you buy Anthem of the Sun, Workingman's Dead or American Beauty you may be both surprised and disappointed. It's pretty simple country rock. Your best bet would be Live/Dead if you can find it, but any live recording will do. That's where they were good and what made them THE cult band.

Bork, I think he's being sarcastic ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Anyway, being one myself, I know for a fact how obsessive Toriphiles can be. This article sums it up: http://xenex.org/justify/torifans.php

He'd better be - otherwise someone needs to go drag him out from under his rock ๐Ÿคฃ

I was born in Sweden. We don't understand sarcasm.

Didn't someone bring up Insane Clown Posse? I'm pretty sure they qualify.
Kiss in the 70's were the epitome of a cult band. Wait. Can a cult band be mainstream?
