It's popular view now that Bark Psychosis used electronic music's aesthetics in their post-production phase and also achieved a sense of space by being inspired by Talk Talk in recording techniques (recording in a cathedral also helps), but that's just history. Go listen to the album; you'll find mature songs which don't follow common structures but don't feel forced for one second. They combine lushness with staggering minimalism changing phases from melancholy to soothing soundscapes and back to stressful weight of time; it's just perfect, cannot fucking believe that a band has achieved this much maturity with their first record (I hate to say anything against Joanna Newsom but that cannot be said about her debut).

I hear this more in Codename: Dustsucker than in Hex.

Yeah, def more on that one but it's not like the influence is absent on the debut. But yeah Codename: Dustsucker had Lee Harris so . . .
