- Post subject: So I Finally Like Radiohead...
|
When I first came to BEA, the first thing I didn't like about it was the extraordinarily high rating given to Radiohead. I wouldn't say I hated Radiohead, just didn't think very highly of them at all.
So a while ago I was talking to a friend about how I didn't understand the appeal of Radiohead. He asks "Have you listened to enough of them?"
I respond "Yeah, I listened to two full albums!" (OK Computer and Kid A)
He asks "What did they remind you of?"
"Nothing"
"EXACTLY!!"
I stopped for a moment and realized he was right. So I say "I've realized the error of my ways. Okay, what should I listen to? What would be a good way to ease myself into appreciating Radiohead?"
He suggested The Bends. I listened to it, and it found it's way onto #30 on my overall chart. From there, I've now revisited OK Computer twice (listening to it right now, in fact).
There's no reason for this post. Just wanted to share the news, I now finally (FINALLY!) like Radiohead.

Radiohead are cool. The Radioheads would have been a cooler band name...maybe... 🤔

I had the same experience back in 1998, with the obvious exception that Kid A wasn't out yet. I didn't get OK Computer at all at first, but when I heard the Bends, I latched on right away. It didn't take long to get into OK Computer after that. I seldom revisit their pre-OK material these days, though.

Ok Computer reminded me of a haunted house when I first listened to it. Over time I created a story in my head about a man who had to stop in a mansion for one whole year without human contact and they made the album.

Why did he HAVE to stop at the mansion?
To stay on topic, I feel sorry for you, Nutso... but maybe I'll try that Radiohead album again.

Which one? The Bends?
(Honestly, I still like that one better than OK Computer)

The Bends was my favourite for a while, but now it's fourth. My top 3 has jumped around a great deal. At first it was The Bends > OKC > In Rainbows, then suddenly it was OKC > In Rainbows > The Bends, then next thing you know it's Kid A > OKC > In Rainbows. Go figure. _________________ kill yr idols
