Ok, you've just got home from HMV... you have just purchased the 2nd album (or a latest album) from a band/artist you REALLY like...you simply can't wait to hear their latest material, as you thought their last one was SO amazing... you put it on, and.....
"WTF? What on earth is this rubbish I am listening to? What have they done??"
So my question is: What is the most disappointed you've ever been when you've listened to a new album?
A few examples I can think of Are:
-Slipway Fires by Razorlight (following Up All Night, and Razorlight)
-Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie by Alanis Morissette (following Jagged Little Pill)
-Recovering The Satellites by Counting Crows (following August and Everything After)
-Empire by Kasabian (following Kasabian)
-Room on Fire by The Strokes (following Is This It)
That album is great to me. I donยดt understand why people say it was disapointing. I guess that if is this it came after room on fire, they would say the same about is this it.
in my case, 2 albums come to my mind:
- August, by Eric Clapton. I was a great fan of Clapton at university, so i came to buy one of his 80s albums, produced by Collins, featuring turner... AWFUL!! well, a couple of good singles but an awful production.
- a greatest hits by The Knack. I was shocked. How could it be that a band able to compose such a great hit as My Sharonna could have absolutely nothing else to say?
Immediately coming to mind was the debut album from a NY band called "The Chrome Cranks", but that's another story - I'd never heard of them, but deliriously thought they might be part of the Manchester scene and didn't read the album cover closely enough. It was '94, and I bought it on vinyl. The band was hands down the worst approximation of music I've ever heard.
But as for bands I knew...Wah Wah by James and Wowee Zowee by Pavement greatly disappointed me (though I've come to like some of Zowee). Also starting with 100% Fun and continuing downward with Blue Sky On Mars, Matthew Sweet left me disappointed for many years, reestablishing himself fully only a few years ago with Kimi Ga Suki.
Grant Lee Buffalo's Copperopolis was also a bit of a letdown as it was a bit too mellow, though I can't say it's a bad album. And Catherine Wheel's Wishville - which turned out to be their swansong - also was the worst of their career. _________________ <(: @ :)>
what about "The Weirdness" by Stooges, very much a let down. Iggy was out of his element with many of the lyrics and whoever the producer was totally fucked up mike watts funky bass sound.
It must be something by The Music...
With brilliant debut I expected them to be something in a shape of The Mars Volta... It never happened... they just fall... _________________ we used to be alright...
