Must admit that it wouldn't have taken a huge amount for me to vote against Lennon, but East River Pipe is my favourite discovery from the nominations and he takes this one easily for me.
Ok. Guys, Please listen to East River Pipe. I know this match is quite a bit of a mismatch and I'm a huge Beatles fan and love much of Lennon's solo work, but East River Pipe is truly special. Plus he's actually solo. No backing musicians, no Yoko, just FM Cornog and a cheap set of recording equipment.
if you've only got time for one album, I'd recommend The Gasoline Age or We Live In Rented Rooms. And research his backstory, because it's quite interesting. A once homeless, drug addict. His songs speak of the world from the perspective of someone who seen real shit.
