How do you go about this?
For me I find it really hard to say anything. I've had my chart up and down so many times and when I put it back up I must admit I like to have people pop by. I do like to have a little recognition. To do this I go around giving "feedback" on other charts as well as rating. However I feel a bit silly when I find myself repeating things like "Great chart" or anything of such. I could list the albums I like or use different adjectives yet I feel I should put more.
Sometimes I do invest a lot of time into a comment and I find to do so I have to speak about 1-2 albums on the chart in depth. I have to really put someone on the spot and I worry I comes across as a little confrontational when the 4 previous users wrote things like "Excellent chart here" or "wonderful picks on this one".
In the end I find it easier to write small things. 😕
So yeah, let's talk all about leaving comments on other people's charts in a seperate thread from chart talk. I want to know how you talk about the music.

Typically I'll mention specific albums that I like seeing on a person's chart, or something I may somewhat disagree with. For example, I see someone has a fairly obscure album that I love really high I'll mention that, or if someone has an album that seems way out of left field, I might mention that. _________________ Progressive Rock

Small things might be the best if it's to say something nice, but if the comment shows that the author doesn't like the chart it should be a long comment. Like RockyRaccoon I mention records I love when they're high or I make a general comment.
I liked what you wrote on mine recently, I answered you via private message so we could have a discussion about it ... _________________ That's right, I'm an Asshole

I hate leaving small comments in a chart, it just makes me another guy who wrote "Great chart" in it. I'm not saying I'll write a bible about the chart, but usually I'll make a reference to an album I find great; if there is any music I dont know, but seems interesting, I'll thank them, or ask them why do they think is cool.. I dont know... I always try to make comments different.
And always live constructive comments. Even if I "hate" the chart or barely know the albums in it, I simply write about the positive stuff I saw on the album. Nobody has a shitty chart... my high rating goes for the ones who seem original or special. _________________ "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming"

You change your chart so frequently that any comments I could leave would probably be outdated in a week.
I find it next to impossible to rate a chart. Usually, if i'm commenting on a chart, I'll just leave recs based on the person's tastes or say something about some excellent, unique choices _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

It's hard enough to rate and comment on albums. I have no idea how to rate and comment on charts. It may be best to stick to platitudes - after all, we don't typically know what any given person sets out to achieve with his or her chart.

Chart comments are pretty good for giving/receiving recs I guess. Honestly I hardly ever comment on charts, although I do massively appreciate it when I receive them. Criticisms included.

I guess it depends on how lazy I'm feeling. I like to put more than just "great chart" & I do think that it's a real cop out when I do but sometimes it's all that I can muster. Maybe I should just leave well alone unless I have something really meaningful to say.
Anyway, "good thread"!
