I remember it having a pretty soundtrack, fit the movie well, though I can't imagine it being as good on its own.

It's not, but for a soundtrack so specifically tied to a film, it works surprisingly well as a standalone. Beautiful soundtrack for a brilliant film

1. Most of the tracks were not written for the movie but pre-existed. You are implying that Tiersen's LPs are shit. Why not imo, but I just wanted you to know.
2. This film is not brilliant in the least.

That certainly wasn't my intended expression. I adore the soundtrack; perhaps my word selection was poor. It's more that I have come to associate the soundtrack to film such that it's hard for me to view one as entirely independent from the other; I enjoy the soundtrack infinitely more when attached to the film, but that's likely a product of my simply loving the film (a sentiment with which I gather you are not in concurrence.)

I don't think he's implying this at all, it's just that this soundtrack includes a lot of numbers that are based on the same piece of melody (same "theme"), as well as having a couple of non Tiersen tracks included as well.. So it's not really a "normal" Tiersen LP, it's definitely tied to the film a lot.

*groans*
It's a beautiful modern fairy tale and I fucking love it, but okay let's agree to disagree.
