Is anyone visiting Austin, or any Austinites checking out the fest this year?
I saw an amazing show last night at Hole in the Wall:
- Pollies
- District Attorney
- Old Yeller
- Two Cow Garage
- Grand Champeen (yes, back together)

I wish! Love Two Cow Garage!!!!!!
I'm flying into San Antonio on Sunday, but I won't be able to make Austin in time for anything.
I am going to Beale Street in Memphis at the beginning of may, though! _________________ I'm leaning on the threshold

I was in Austin the past couple of days, but I tend to avoid SXSW like the plague. Downtown Austin becomes more crowded than a Beijing rush hour during SXSW, and it lasts all week at all hours.

I thought this was a site for music lovers?
You'd avoid a chance to see amazing bands for next to nothing because of a little inconvenience? And trust me, traffic is fine when you're heading home at 2am.
Don't get me wrong, I love ACL and FunFunFunFest, but SX is too much. What seems like a "walkabout town and see all the bands" type of event often turns into a "hold the fort down at one venue because they'll reach fire capacity three hours before the good bands come on" type of event. One of my sisters is friends with a guy who could provide me with a pass to a venue each day, but then I'm still stuck at a venue. That being said, I like what SXSW is and watching the videos that come from it afterwards. The street performers that come out of the woodwork are often quite good too. I guess I'm oldish and just prefer festival environments.

Yeah makes sense. My approach is not to buy any badges, wristbands, anything. I go to the free shows at Auditorium Shores, Waterloo Records, W hotel, etc. Then fill in with smaller bands - that show at Hole in the Wall was a $5 cover and I don't think it ever sold out. Last night I saw shows at three venues, Deer Tick being one of them.
South By Southwest, the largest annual musical event in the US (and so much more), is happening March 7th through March 16th (at least the official part) in Austin, TX. Is anyone here traveling to Austin to take part in it?
