Beefheart really cared about animals and the enviornment, and you can see that all over his lyrics. I've always thought that the term "Trout Mask Replica" meant becoming that animal, and the primitivist nature of a lot of the composition (as complicated as it often is) shows that. I especially remember that line near the end about the dog who wished he was a boy, but God not giving him that choice.
I think we're losing sight of what's important here: organizing a mass email campaign to accuse Scaruffi of sadism, support of torture, and the secret desire to be a fish.
