Too early to be truly awake…

Woke up unseasonably early today. It is around 7:00 am and there is no work until much later in the afternoon, so might as well make a cup of tea and enjoy one of my favorites.

Deuce by Rory Gallagher

First track: I'm Not Awake Yet

I'm not awake yet, I haven't opened my eyes.
But I haven't been late yet, I'm gonna to be on time.

Quite appropriate at the moment. See you all later on… Smile

Enjoying a cloudy rainy afternoon…

Time to get another cup of tea going and get ready for work. Will throw this one in and enjoy it until then:

Geek The Girl by Lisa Germano

I will be continuing my slowcore "essential" listenings, which I started yesterday - seems appropriate with the weather we are having here lately... This one was one of the stand-outs from yesterday’s listenings.

A ray of sunshine…

Well, off to work we go…My job involves a computer so I will be listening to music for the rest of the day on it… Like I said earlier I will be listening mostly to some "essential" slowcore releases that I haven’t listened yet, so many of them will be a first listen. Will start with this one:

Pyramid Electric Co. by Jason Molina

The rain stopped and the weather may be getting better but I see no end in a downwards spiral with listening to this kind of music… Thank God I am not paying attention to the lyrics… Smile Anyway, will come back at the end of the day to close this first day of my log and possibly write out some thoughts on this day’s musical adventure. See you then.

As the night sets in, the clock resets to 0. A new day is here like magic…

Well, another adventure in Musicland comes to an end. Had a great day discovering new sounds all within the context of the slowcore genre, which sounds great and all but is just too heavy on your psyche. Tomorrow is another day and a direction is sought towards something more upbeat…The pivotal discovery of today was Karate’s Unsolved, a great mixture of jazz and slowcore with elements of post-rock. It will be tomorrow’s start towards new avenues of musical discoveries, … Other stand-out albums were The Opiates by Anywhen, The Infinite Circle by Sophia, The Bed Is in the Ocean by Karate and Remué by Dominique A . Here is a list of the albums listened today:

Anywhen - The Opiates
Sophia - The Infinite Circle
Karate - The Bed Is in the Ocean
Karate - Unsolved
Dominique A - Remué
Molina, Jason - Pyramid Electric Co

-------------------------------------
Germano, Lisa - Geek The Girl
Gallagher, Rory - Deuce

Have a good one. Smile

Remué is excellent.

You didn't like Geek the Girl ? Although I'm not sure about it being slowcore, I think it's a masterpiece.

I did. Very Happy Great album, highly recommended, although not an easy listen by any means... Definitely, crosses over many genres, singer-songwriter and dream pop among others.

Breaking through the clouds…

It is amazing how much our psychology is linked to the weather... Living in a country where the sun shines 5 or 6 days a week it is hard to deal with rainy, cloudy days although they do have their own charm. Anyway, enough of this morning-afternoon philosophy… It is time to enjoy a cup of tea on a brand new day that is trying hard to break through the clouds. Throw in yesterday’s musical discovery and ponder about the rest of the day…

Unsolved by Karate

The album begins with “Small Fries”: shifting, clean guitar notes, pounding bass and soft drum cymbals. The guitar continues its jazzy, soft lament as the vocals set in:

…But you can't evict the sun
It shines on one hour
Every morning
Every day..

Quite appropriate at the moment... Smile

Switching gears...

Karate’s Unsolved provided what I needed to switch gears and genres into something more upbeat and positive. I will be exploring some of the most recent jazz-rock records released in the 90’s and 00’s that are geared more towards rock than jazz, hopefully with vocals participating and avoid any of the fusion-based jazz rock. Anyway, will start with this one:

Rhythm, Chord & Melody by The Reign Of Kindo

Sounds okay so far - kind of what I am looking for... Smile

Will come back at the end of the day to wrap today’s musical adventure. See you all then.

How did you feel about Pyramid Electric Co.? I've been trying to buy a copy for a long time; it definitely needs a reissue.

Hmm...difficult to say and I won't do justice to it after just one listen... One thing I can say though is that it is pretty heavy, quite depressing and that it does leave its mark on you at the end...and all that without getting into the lyrics...
