  • Quote
Seeing as we're nearly there I thought I would ask what everyone's favourite Christmas albums are?

I have quite a few and I listen to many online too, at this time of year.

I just listened to Vince Guaraldi's famous A Charlie Brown Christmas. I wasn't alive when it came out, along with the popular holiday cartoon of the same name, in 1965 but I remember seeing it as a child in the UK in the 1980s. I don't know how popular the soundtrack was in the UK but I read it sold 4 million copies in the U.S.

Here is a list, in no particular order, of my favourite Christmas albums:

Jim Reeves - Twelve Songs Of Christmas
Disney's Christmas album (with the fabulous Night Before Christmas as narrated by Jiminy Cricket)
Elvis Presley's Christmas album
Now Christmas (UK version) (2012 version, red cover)
Michael Buble - Christmas
Rod Stewart - Merry Christmas Baby
Leona Lewis - Christmas, With Love
Josh Groban - Noel
Tori Amos - Midwinter Graces
Kelly Clarkson - Wrapped in Red
Little Steven's Underground Garage Presents Christmas A Go-Go
A Very Special Christmas (various volumes)
Ella Fitzgerald - Ella Wishes You A Swingin' Christmas
Bob Dylan - Christmas In The Heart

There's loads more but these are some of my favourites.

Obviously you can overdose but I tend to listen to ordinary music as well, just so I don't get too sick of all the Yuletide music.

Tell me what your favourite Christmas music is, or even why you hate it, if it's not your bag.

Leona Lewis did a Christmas album? Good Lord no. And Rod Stewart's Xmas 'record' is the musical equivalent of the sensation you get as a kid when you find out Santa doesn't exist (sorry Suede - better you find out from me). How could you have a list of festive albums and not mention:

A Christmas Gift For You by Phil Spector

or

The Beach Boys' Christmas Album by The Beach Boys

Which are the only two Xmas LPs I'll allow to be played at the House of Dread. Oh, and this:

Have an irie Christmas. One love.

D'oh! I can't believe I forgot the Phil Spector album. That's one of my favourites too!
Especially the version of Marshmallow World.

Also last year I bought:

Jacob Miller's Natty Christmas which makes me smile loads.

I also like the song Christmas Time Is Here Again by The Beatles off the Real Love CD single
John Lennon does a brilliant Scottish accent, and I am Scottish and find it hilarious.

James Brown's Funky Christmas by James Brown
This is funny. Not really very festive, just him going uhh it's Christmas time etc. over his normal sound.

Recently bought this one. It's pretty good, but not quite what I was expecting with 5 short discs. Complements the Low album and a couple of Cocteau Twins rarities for my Xmas playlist well enough.

Songs For Christmas by Sufjan Stevens
