2014's Leftovers: 101-200 (eventually)
by benpaco

Cuz one chart's not enough anymore. This will probably be just pretty bad stuff for a while, but I'm largely using these charts as a guide to what I've heard and what's worth hearing, so eh.

This is really OK musically. Like one of the better post rock releases this year. So why is it rated so low? Because it chose to be a concept album then utterly failed to convey that concept. "We'll make an album about space" said 5,000,000 bands at some point. But most of them can do it. The floatiness, the emptiness, the sheer glory. This is beautiful, but not at all spacey. So unfortunately, for that reason alone, this loses HUGE amounts of points for me. It would've probably been like an 80 otherwise.

"Hey, chick, give me a Lorde impression"
"*sings Royals alright I guess*"
"There we go baby, that's the money! Come on, let's make a half-assed album and see if anyone mistakes the single for her!"

No, no we won't.

His worst release by far. Does very little, doesn't really go anywhere. The only interesting piece is "Childish Gambino @ The Atrium", a satirical advertisement for Gambino. Everything else is just boring, frankly. [First added to this chart: 02/16/2015]

You know how the main complaint about Charlie Nobles on this site was that they were a bit "samey". This is the definition of samey, and it doesn't even have the excuse of being released before other similar albums. What's that, you're Friendly Fires? No you're not, you just said you were TV On The Radio. No you can't also be Miike Snow. Or Passion Pit. In fact, you don't get to be any of them, you just sound like a knockoff. You are the airphone of bands. You are the Vii. Congrats. [First added to this chart: 12/17/2014]

I have no idea why I decided to listen to this. None whatsoever. Don't even like "Best Day of My Life". I can tell you this much, American Authors owe me 40 minutes of my life I wasted and will now never, ever get back. Sat through the whole thing just hoping it'd get better. It didn't. Expectation: EDM or experimental house or maybe, just maybe, Afrojack style pop.
Reality: Religious Folktronica.

This album was so bad I had to put it here as a warning against listening to it despite not actually finishing it. By track 7 I wanted nothing more than to go deaf, and upon seeing track 8's title "Jesus Is Calling", I decided I'd just listen to 30 seconds of the remaining 7(! It's long too!) tracks. I don't understand how music could be this bad. I'm sorry to Nickelback, Creed, American Authors, Skrillex, and every other artist I've ever been mean to, because this sets a new level of bad. It's top 100 albums in the US on spotify too. Just proves people will continue to listen to garbage if it talks about god enough. *sigh*
