Look, you can call it the Czech Republic, Czechia, or even Bohemia if you insist, but it's not going to change my mind about this being the best album of 2014. More people should hear this record! (Preferably while awake.)

From Italy, this is a kind of "shoegaze minimalist" act that uses heavy doses of reverb to compensate for their sparse instrumentation. In other words, nearly perfect!

Obviously there's a huge ongoing worldwide controversy over which Field Mouse album is the best one, this one or "Episodic." Admittedly, I do personally prefer Episodic. But that doesn't mean I should be subjected to constant abuse and death threats, does it? Sure, maybe one or two, preferably on slow news days. But regardless, "Hold Still Life" is a fine album and you can't go wrong with either one.

It's similar to Japandroids in that there's no bass player, but for some reason I don't miss the bass player on Honeyblood albums.

This band describes (or described) itself as "dreampunk." They take the classic shoegaze "drums & vocals down, bass & guitars up" mixing philosophy very seriously, so you have to really turn up the volume to properly appreciate it.

With the single exception of this one album, Alcest's sound has generally been described as "blackgaze" and "post-black-metal." This one takes more of a classic shoegaze approach, and even has a guest appearance by Slowdive's Neil Halstead. I guess the fact that this is the only Alcest album I really like makes me a bit of a "wuss." The line for critics is on the right.

This one will definitely be of interest to Cocteau Twins fans, and it's very, very pretty, sometimes almost excessively so. Radiohead fans will also be happy to hear that Phil Selway plays drums on two of the tracks.
