This starts off like a measured, thoughtful walk through familiar emotional territory — strong voice up front, tasteful arrangements, nothing embarrassing — and for a while it genuinely works. Andrews knows how to phrase a line and sell sincerity without sounding like she’s auditioning for sympathy, and the early tracks benefit from restrained production that lets the songs breathe. But somewhere around the midpoint the album starts clinging for reassurance, leaning into glossy textures, swelling choruses and lyrical nudges that feel less heartfelt and more politely needy. The sonics are undeniably well-crafted — warm low end, soft-focus synths, careful layering, and a vocal mix that flatters her range — yet the emotional arc begins to sag under its own earnestness. What could have been intimate turns syrupy, and what began as reflective slips into something closer to emotional drizzle. There’s talent and discipline here, no question, but the record would have landed harder if it trusted the listener a bit more and stopped asking to be liked every thirty seconds.
