Emmett Till’s dreadful murder must have struck Dylan very hard. Poor Emmett was just 14 when he was kidnapped and murdered, pretty much for talking to a white woman. Dylan and Emmett were born about a month apart. It is not hard to see how the horrific injustice of the killers walking free from the courthouse and the unfolding story as they confessed to the killing a year later would have captivated and angered the teenage Dylan.
