While Bobby McGee (along with the opener, Move Over) is pretty clearly the standout *song* on Pearl, I think Mercedes Benz is the best part of the album.
Of course the vocal performance itself is more than noteworthy and such a great document of Janis, the influential singer, but her quips before and after are what make this an extra iconic recording for me and give a glimpse unto Janis, the individual.
Maybe the best a cappella song I've ever heard.
