Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

I like this and comes close to being the best 'slow' song on the album. Again like the previous track I thought it may have been played live more. The piano is gorgeous on this one but it's Mike's guitar that makes this standout along with some great drum patterns.
If you wanted to know what the future of Genesis would look like, here's a prime example. I think Many Too Many is the first "straightforward" love song from Genesis, although it is a bit twisted in that the lyrics depict a tumultuous relationship between the narrator and the love interest. Unfortunately, there's just not that much interesting going on here on an album full of interesting tunes. There is some really nice piano work and mellotron from Banks, and some solid percussion and guitar work scattered throughout, but the melody is a bit slow, the lyrics are just too simple, and the instrumentation never really reaches its potential. At just 3:31, this really feels like Genesis' first attempt at crafting a hit single, and it kind of worked, as it peaked at No. 43 in the UK. I think my rating of 75 may be a bit low, but considering how I've chosen to rate the other songs on this album, I think it's the most fitting score I can pick.
