"Prayers for Rain" is one of the many brilliant moments of the album. Again Smith delivers a great vocal performance. Drama and threat. Smith takes his listener to Limbo, to a corner of life where the meaninglessness of human existence is magnified. It is very clever to give the hopeless an instrumental voice. As with more songs on the album, the structure of the song is stuck in multiple layers of different instruments. The guitar does not claim the lead role, but seeks a balance with the again very nicely arranged strings, the many echoes and the excessive reverb. (Edited)
