A kickstand is a metallic component of a motorcycle that props the entire motor vehicle in an upright position. Soundgarden uses a variety of metaphoric literary devices to elucidate and describe a feeling of riding on a motorcycle.
As a stand-alone track, "Kickstand" is relatively weak, as it is too short and blurs by without making much of a lasting impact, with one exception. Although it is simply a very straight-forward conventional rock-'n-roll track concerning the freedom and power, the sensation one feels when riding a motorcycle, it is not a filler track on the album. It's necessary to relieve all the tension built up from the darker previous tracks.
