Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)

This track is rated in the top 10% of all tracks on BestEverAlbums.com. This track has a Bayesian average rating of 78.7/100, a mean average of 78.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.9/100. The standard deviation for this track is 10.2.

This song, for me, is an indication that the group were coming down after their lengthly artistic peak. I would have to look many albums back, to find an opening track that was not fantastic.
Here we have the band touching on Black Sabbath type lyrics, without the melody to keep me interested for the songs length.
The opening riff is promising enough but it soon goes down hill when the vocals start. Mick sounds very un-Mick-like as he puts on a US accent and the chorus is fairly weak. I'm not sure which track should have started this album but I personally would not of gone for this. Not awful but way too long. The instrumental breaks, like the opening are the highlights.

The Stones kick off the album with this dark, brooding piece of voodoo rock that goes for the sinister with hammer horror screams from some unfortunate damsel in distress thrown in. It has a nice groove running through it and is extremely enjoyable although it it does sound like the band are trying to sound as scary as possible. Still, it's a decent opening track from an uneven album.
