I'm not saying that I'm against this...maybe it's just me...but I would think that if people are this into music, and albums in particular, then why would you not already know that an album is live, or that it's an EP? Don't you guys research the albums you're going to buy first?

What about cases where an album is part live and part studio? Three Sides Live by Genesis, for example, is what the title suggests: three side of live performance and one side of new studio recordings. How do you classify Fandango by ZZ Top, which is exactly half and half? There are several albums that would fall into this.

Is the purpose of this to differentiate live tracks from studio tracks for the purpose of rating? If so, then what about live albums that contain songs that were never recorded for studio albums? This happens VERY frequently. An album like Running On Empty by Jackson Browne is a live album, and NONE of the tracks appear on any studio album by him.

Are we talking about a seperate field, like compilations have now? Or are we looking at making "Live" or "EP" part of the album title? Or would it be on a song by song basis?

In my fancy album database spreadsheet I have a column for album type. I have studio, live, compilation, soundtrack, etc. For the albums that you describe I have a "studio/live" option.

I do know which albums are which but I like the option to be able to sort by that category for some reason.

I don't buy a lot of albums, remember?

That's a good point.

All the songs are live, and the album is still live, new tracks or not.

It's really so that people who don't research the album first can know if it's a live album. But I guess the other users have reasons for liking it.

I love these options! But don't forget EP's.
