there's no way to give a direct answer that would apply to all ofr this topic... sometimes the popular songs are what we consider best, and sometimes they're not.. it just works like that

I guess I'm about 50/50 with thinking the "most popular song" is the best on the album, but to say that songs like "Tomorrow Never Knows", "Paradise City", and "Everybody Hurts" are weak? I think that's just unfair. They're all great songs, and whether they are the best song on the album or not, they're still all great songs.

I'm not necessarily saying they're weak (though I do consider "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "Paradise City" to be pretty weak; not so much for "Everybody Hurts"), I'm just saying that I consider them among the weaker material on the album. And it's not really unfair unless you truly consider those songs great, and I personally don't.

I'd say the rest of Sgt. Peppers is weak compared to A Day In The Life. It's by far the best song, and even though there are some other great tracks on the album, nothing is near A Day In The Life.

Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite is better IMO, probably the definitive Sgt. Pepper song actually. A Day in the Life sounds a bit out of place on the record, but it's in the top 3 Sgt. Pepper tracks.

Let me try this (the ones I mention are very popular tracks off of certain albums which I consider to be really overrated, not necessarily dislikable or not good at all):

Norwegian Wood (Rubber Soul)
Pictures Of You (Disintegration)
Highway 61 Revisited (Highway 61 Revisited)
The End (The Doors)
Black (Ten)
She's Lost Control (Unknown Pleasures)
Let Down (OK Computer)
Eleanor Rigby (Revolver)
God Only Knows (Pet Sounds)
Happiness Is A Warm Gun (The Beatles)
Tumbling Dice (Exile On Main St.)
Shelter From The Storm (Blood On The Tracks)
Kashmir (Physical Graffiti)
Starman (The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars)
Breadcrumb Trail (Spiderland)
HigherThanTheSun

I must say though in my opinion is that when a song becomes commercialised via radio or other media then I think it takes the shine off of it. The great songs that do tend to become more popular start to wear thin when you hear them over and over again on the radio. 🧱

This to me is the case with many a track.

When I play London Calling I normally skip the title track because I've heard it so many times. I think it's probably the strongest track off the album though, I'm just bored of it. If this is the sort of thing you mean then I agree.

Huh, I never really thought about it that way, but I think I agree. "A Day in the Life" is a good song, but I don't feel like it's a fitting end to an album like Sgt. Pepper, and it's certainly not the best song on the album.

"Benefit of Mr. Kite" is easily one of the dopest tunes on the album, btw.
