No, quite sure it was 90s. It was slow and soft, male vocals, and the "nanana" part was kinda choral.

That's a good track though. Always reminds me of FernGully. There was a 90s hip-hop song I remember that borrowed that nanana part.

Yes. This. LMAO. This song was my shit, back when I was like 8. I thought it was the best song ever. I went like 15 years without hearing this song, but still talking about it even though I barely remembered it. Then when I heard it I went nuts and sang the whole thing.
